Your guide to a Post-Lockdown newborn photo session with Berkshire Baby photographer Natalie Stevens Photography
We’ve all just lived through one of the scariest, weirdest times in history and just to top it all off, you just had a baby! Well, firstly, congratulations! But as we all adjust to our new normal, your thoughts might be turning to doing all those things you planned to do before Corona virus swept over the world, and one of those things might be to capture some memories. As a Berkshire baby photographer, I just wanted to answer a few questions you might have and talk you through how things look for a baby photoshoot in our new normal world.
Indoors or Outdoors
When I first started back doing baby photoshoots, it was outdoors only and boy have I been loving the results. So much so that I’m going to keep this as a part of my offering permanently. There’s just something about being out in nature that gives such a natural, laid back vibe to the photos. Don’t you agree?.
However, now that restrictions have lifted a bit more, I’m now able to offer in home baby sessions as well so you can have the choice of what you prefer. It’s also possible to do a combination of indoor and outdoor if you’d prefer to mainly be outside but have a few shots taken in your home too. All the photos in this blog post were taken outside so it’s possible to achieve a good variety of images outdoors. We can arrange a chat to discuss how we can make your shoot totally bespoke to you.
Safety First
I’m very conscious of minimising any possible risk of spread throughout all my sessions, especially where babies are involved. My style is very relaxed and natural which lends itself to keeping my distance anyway. Most of the time during your session you will be snuggled up cuddling and kissing your baby and I will be well over 2 meters away.
For baby alone photos, I follow a baby led posing philosophy which involves very little contact with baby and whenever I am anywhere near baby, I will be wearing a mask and will sanitise my hands. A mask will be worn at all times throughout your session if it is indoors.
All my blankets, wraps and baskets will still be available for your use and are washed between each and every session (I do this anyway as standard, even before Corona), but if you’d rather, you are welcome to use your own blankets, and actually I really love it when baby has a special blanket that gets used for photos
Help - I missed out on newborn photos
If your baby was born a couple of months ago, when we were in full lockdown, you might be feeling like you missed out on newborn photos. However , three months or older is a fantastic age for baby photos, as their little personalities are really starting to show this age. Also, two little words that will make you so glad you waited - baby smiles!! Capturing a lovely photo of those baby smiles and giggles will make the wait all worthwhile!
